David Tennant, born 18th April 1971 in Bathgate, Scotland, knew from a very early age that he wanted to become an actor. It was actually Doctor Who that inspired his ambition, and he was determined to pursue his goal. After graduating from drama school, he landed his first professional role, in a stage production of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui. In the early 1990s, he moved down to London to develop his theatre career further, moving in with his close friend, writer Arabella Weir. He frequently peformed with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and returned there in 2008. David has also appeared in several high-profile television dramas, including Blackpool and Casanova. One of his earlier TV roles was as 'Davina the Transexual' in Rab C Nesbitt. His film credits include Stephen Fry's Bright Young Things, and Harry Potter fans will know him as Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He has also appeared in Jude, where he shared a scene alongside Ninth Doctor actor, Christopher Eccleston. He recently played a character called Pomfrey in the St Trinian's sequel, The Legend of Fritton's Gold, which was released in cinemas in late 2009.
David will return to Doctor Who in November 2013 for the 50th anniversary special 'The Day of the Doctor'.
