Christopher Eccleston, born in Manchester on 16th February 1964, landed his first professional role in 1991, portraying Derek Bentley in the film Let Him Have It, which was followed in the same year by an appearance in the long-running detective series Inspector Morse. He became well known in 1993-1994 playing Detective Chief Inspector David Bilborough in Cracker.
His other TV credits include Agatha Christie's Poirot, Clocking Off and The League of Gentlemen, and he has also starred in several films including Jude, in which he appeared in a scene with Tenth Doctor actor David Tennant, Gone in 60 Seconds and 28 Days Later. He has also taken to the stage in productions such as A Streetcar Named Desire and Hamlet.
Even though he only portrayed the Ninth Doctor for one series, he is often credited for reinventing the series and he undoubtedly played a huge part in making it the success it is today. Since leaving Doctor Who, he has appeared in Heroes and Lennon Naked.
